Lack of medicine for respiratory diseases

In San Luis Potosí, the supply of medicines is around 78%, and it is expected that by the end of 2022, it will be at 80%, said the head of the State Health Services, Daniel Acosta Díaz de León , who added that currently the medicines that are in short supply are for respiratory diseases.

According to data from the Zero Shortage Collective, during 2022 they received 26 reports of drug shortages; 70% less than those received in 2021, the year in which they had 95.

The state official acknowledged that the public perception is that there is a greater shortage of medicines, which could be due to the fact that sometimes the supplies run out in pharmacies and it takes time to supply them from the central warehouses.

He added that there is a shortage of medicines against respiratory diseases in San Luis Potosí, a situation that is attributed to an overdemand that has increased in recent days, due to the rebound in these diseases, especially influenza and respiratory syncytial virus. .

“There is an excess demand, a few days ago there was a lack of Oseltamivir, which is the medicine used for influenza,” he explained.
