Lady Dayana Hernández Cárcamo, a medical student at the Autonomous University of Bucaramanga, Unab, obtained the best score in the Ascofame East Region Best Intern Award, and second place nationally, behind José Roberto Uribe Delgado, from the University of Antioch.
The finalists were selected from a total of 864 applicants, belonging to 51 medical schools in the country.
Hernández Cárcamo had to solve three medical-clinical cases: one in pediatrics, treating a woman with cardiovascular risk, and the final one, with an adolescent.
Lady Dayana is a native of Barrancabermeja, she lives with her parents, two older sisters, a younger brother “and two additional sisters that my mother decided to adopt a long time ago,” she commented.
He wanted to study Medicine out of curiosity about how the human body works, to know “why the human being is the way he is”, and little by little he discovered the biological part, the brain and the nervous system. The best intern in each region will receive an economic stimulus of $3,000,000, which is already destined for them: their specialization.
“I really like the part of the brain, with the internship I want to see if I really like the surgical part of the brain, which would be neurosurgery, or the clinical part, which is neurology, I am between those two because both seem very nice, very cool ”, he added.
