The Los Angeles Lakers announced this weekend that their center Mo Bamba was diagnosed with a sprained left ankle and will be evaluated in four weeks, dealing a low blow to the team in the midst of the fight to advance to the NBA playoffs.
The Lakers acquired Bamba in a trade before the deadline with the Orlando Magic, who acquired Patrick Beverley in the trade before releasing him and giving him a chance to sign with the Chicago Bulls.
Bamba suffered the injury in the opening minutes of the game against the Golden State Warriors and the Lakers predict that he will miss the remainder of the regular season. His loss joins that of LeBron James (foot injury), and although the team’s medical team will examine him again in a month, there is no certainty that he can return to the courts by then.
Mo Bamba has been evaluated by Lakers team doctors and has been diagnosed with a high left ankle sprain. He will be re-evaluated in approximately four weeks.

The Lakers still hope to see Bamba in the hypothetical play-in tournament, however, everything will depend on his evolution. Los Angeles is ninth in the Western Conference with a 33-34 mark, very close even to advancing to the postseason directly.
Bamba will miss a total of 15 games, unable to stand up to the New York Knicks, New Orleans Pelicans, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Oklahoma City Thunder, Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah Jazz and Los Angels Clippers.
The center averages 6.8 points per game, 4.7 rebounds, 48.7% shooting from the field, 39% 3-pointers and 66.1% free throws.
