Sweeped by the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals, Lakers coach Darvin Ham did not appreciate seeing Michael Malone bragging after his victory and his title won a few weeks later. And he made it known by responding in a somewhat virulent way to the Denver coach.
Winners of the first title in their history, the Nuggets did not fail to celebrate their achievement for several days. And during the parade in the city of Denver, they sent a few small spades to the Lakers after inflicting a 4-0 in the Conference Finals on the Purple & Gold. Journalist Vic Lombardi went downright inflamed by calling Michael Malone the “Lakers dad” during the parade. His moment of glory arrived, the Denver coach did not deprive himself of a good flex.

Asked about it by Chris Haynes and Marc Stein during his time on the #thisleague UNCUT PodcastDarvin Ham did not mince his words:
“Oh wow. You gonna talk about Money Mike? Lakers dad? Is that what it’s called now? Lakers dad? God bless his soul. It is not finished.”
It seems rather clear, the Lakers coach did not appreciate the spades sent to his team… and Neither does LeBron James.
After the elimination of Los Angeles, the King had cast doubt on the rest of his career, probably in order to draw media attention to this information rather than the sweep inflicted by the Nuggets. A strategy that had worked rather well, and which Michael Malone – frustrated by the over-mediatization of the Lakers – had not hesitated to make fun of a few weeks later by declaring ironically that he too was thinking of retiring. LeBron immediately responded to his Instagram account :
“I’ve been in Europe for a few weeks, making my life and I hear that I’m still on your mind? […] Enjoy your light, but don’t forget that I am the sun.”
Probably upset by this double humiliation, the Lakers seem revengeful and ready to fight as soon as possible. The beginning of a great rivalry within the Western Conference?
The season has been over for several weeks, but the Lakers and Nuggets continue to bicker. We are already ready to date the first match between these two teams as soon as the schedule is known. And for a new series of Playoffs, where do we sign?
