Lakshadweep NCP leader Mohammad Faisal, who was convicted in the attempted murder case, was disqualified from the post of MP. The Lok Sabha Secretariat has issued a notification. Mohammad Faisal, who was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by the Kavarathi District Sessions Court, is in Kannur Jail. During the 2009 Lok Sabha election campaign, the son-in-law of former Union Minister and Congress leader PM Saeed attacked Muhammad Salih in Patna. Disqualification is under Article 102 (1)e of the Constitution and Section VIII of the Representation of the People Act. The disqualification is effective from the 11th of this month, when the court passed the sentence.
