The Landesgalerie Niederösterreich is dedicating a comprehensive exhibition to Franka Lechner, the award winner in the visual arts category, from December 2nd, 2023.
Krems (OTS) – Tonight the governor awards Johanna Mikl Leitner the 2023 Cultural Awards of the State of Lower Austria in the St. Pölten Festival Hall. The Lower Austrian Appreciation Prize in the Fine Arts category goes to Franka Lechner (*1944). From December 2nd, 2023, the Landesgalerie Niederösterreich will be providing a comprehensive insight into the artist’s life’s work.

Lechner’s diverse oeuvre ranges from tapestry to painting to poetry. In her artistic beginnings, Lechner concentrated on painting and collages on paper and experimented with textile materials. In the 1970s, tapestries made on the high loom came to the fore. Her tapestries consist of subtly orchestrated color spaces full of poetry and a contemplative feel, but also deep reflections. From 1982 Lechner also devoted himself to poetry. The artistic intrinsic value of the different genres is important to Lechner, but the series of works nevertheless stimulate each other. “Woven poems and poetic webs” were created over decades.
Hubert Nitschcurator of the exhibition: “The artist’s view of the world is reflected in the works. In it she processes mythological, spiritual, socially critical, political and personal themes as well as observations on nature.

The exhibition brings together works from five decades and provides insight into Franka Lechner’s diverse life’s work. The presentation of the Lower Austrian award winners is an integral part of the annual exhibition program of the Landesgalerie Niederösterreich. After Isolde Maria Joham and Thomas Reinhold, Franka Lechner is the third prize winner to be presented in a solo exhibition.
