Lanmezan. The whirlwind of Alzheimer’s disease

The association In memory of them presented the public of Lannemezan with a funny and moving approach to address the disorders caused by Alzheimer’s disease.

How else can we speak without pathos of Alzheimer’s disease, a disease which concerns us all directly or indirectly and which affects more and more people? The En Mémoire d’Eux association has found a promising and funny path through the theatre.

At the initiative on the territory since June 2017, she presented this Saturday, September 24 at the village hall of Lannemezan a play “Like a ritornello” dedicated to this Alzheimer’s disease and to the entourage of the sick person. .

Written and directed by Aurélien Jumelais, this play deals with this serious subject with humor and delicacy. Far from dwelling on the disease, the play raises awareness among the general public of the difficulties faced by caregivers and professionals working with people living with age-related cognitive disorders. The disease and its symptoms are discussed during discussions, as are existing aid and the right to respite for caregivers.

Once the curtain is drawn, the play becomes what it has never ceased to be, a projection of a piece of life from a distance; but also an educational tool in its own right with a time for talking, listening and sharing the experience that takes place between the public and the stage. By graduation “Like a ritornello” begins by symbolizing the gap that occurs between recognition, understanding and reality. This gap continues to widen until the forgetfulness of what makes the daily life of his life. We only think of the present in short flashes and, conversely, past events come back with more or less intensity. The imperfect replaces the present for the accompanying persons. When memory erases everything, even the most familiar relationships, the patient can only see masks. “Comme une ritornello” was created and directed in 2016 by Aurélien Jumelais as part of the theater workshop of the ACLC Cordemais (Loire-Atlantique) and performed by 9 volunteer actors from the Cordemais adult theater troupe. Wanting to be a real educational tool according to the public, the play addresses in a funny and moving way the difficulties encountered by families and caregivers when dealing with patients with Alzheimer’s without claiming to enlighten anyone about this disease. At each performance, En Mémoire d’Eux donates part of the profits to the France Alzheimer and related diseases association in the department concerned or to carers’ associations.
