Latynina is 88 years old. She is the record holder for the number of medals won at the Olympic Games in artistic gymnastics among women and men – nine gold medals, five silver, four bronze. Until 2012, she was the most titled athlete on the planet, had the largest collection of Olympic medals in the history of sports (18 medals). Her record was broken in 2012 by American swimmer Michael Phelps (28).

Latynina is also a nine-time world champion and a seven-time European champion.
