“Latest Developments on Sudan Crisis: Egyptian Foreign Minister speaks with U.S. Counterpart”

CAIRO, May 2 (Xinhua) — Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri spoke by phone on Tuesday with his U.S. counterpart Antony Blinken on the latest developments in Sudan.

During the call, the two diplomats discussed efforts to achieve a prolonged and lasting ceasefire that would allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need in Sudan, the ministry said. Egyptian Foreign Affairs in a statement.

Mr. Choukri stressed the importance of not fueling the conflict in Sudan through the interference of outside parties in order to ensure the stabilization of the ceasefire and the protection of civilians whose lives are threatened.

For his part, Mr. Blinken thanked Egypt for welcoming tens of thousands of Sudanese civilians who crossed the border, stressing the willingness of the United States to provide the necessary support to Egypt to facilitate the implementation work of this task.

Sudan has become the scene of deadly armed clashes since April 15 between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF, paramilitary) in the capital Khartoum and other regions of the country.

According to the Sudanese Ministry of Health, the fighting has so far left more than 500 dead and around 4,000 injured. END
