Latest Update on HIV and AIDS in Mongolia: 367 Infected, 63 Deaths, and Rising Awareness on World AIDS Day

Ulaanbaatar, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) — On Friday (Dec. 1), Mongolia’s National Center for Communicable Diseases It is reported that the total number of people infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and AIDS patients in the country is 367.

Statement from the center On World AIDS Day which falls on December 1 every year, indicates that there are at least 645 more people in the country who are likely to be infected with the HIV virus.

The center added that 63 people diagnosed with HIV or AIDS died and that regarding 99 percent of the infections came from sexually transmitted infections.

Incidentally, Mongolia detected the country’s first case of HIV in 1992.
