A previous report, released on Sunday, reported 155 hostages. “We have informed the families of 199 hostages,” Daniel Hagari, a military spokesman, said Monday during a press briefing.

He affirmed that “efforts concerning the hostages are a national priority”, adding that “the army and Israel are working day and night” to have them released, while the families have no news. More than 1,400 people were killed in Israel in the attack by Hamas commandos, according to the latest figures provided by Israeli officials.

More than 2,750 people were killed in Israeli retaliatory strikes on the Gaza Strip, a micro-territory governed by Islamist Hamas and besieged by Israel, according to local authorities.
