Launch of 7 projects to connect grain storage silos to the rail network

ALGIERS – The National Agency for Studies and Monitoring of the Implementation of Railway Investments (ANESRIF) has launched seven projects to connect concrete silos under the Algerian Interprofessional Cereals Office (OAIC) ​​to the national railway network, three among them to be received soon, as part of efforts to increase grain storage and transport capacities, according to an ANESRIF official.

In a statement to APS, the communications officer at ANESRIF, Mr. Mazar Abdelkader, explained that the agency aims to connect three concrete silos to the railway network in El Khroub (Constantine), Bouchegouf (Guelma) and Bazoul ( Jijel).

Mr. Mazar indicated that the work on the three connection lines “are about to be finalized and will be received soon”, stressing that the connection work is supported by the National Railway Infrastructure Development Company ( INFRARAIL) and the Urban Engineering Company of Algiers, under the monitoring and control of the Technical Studies and Railway Engineering Company.

The same official also specified that four (4) similar projects “are planned soon”, for the connection to the railway of four (4) other grain storage silos under the OAIC.

These are the silos located in Teleghma (Mila), Oued Tlélat (Oran), Aïn Tallout (Tlemcen) and Ahmar El Aïn (Tipaza), he said, recalling that these projects are part of the the strengthening of the rail logistics network, “in accordance with the State’s guidelines aimed at increasing the storage and transport capacities of cereals in order to ensure their availability throughout the national territory”.

Mr. Mazar highlighted that ANESRIF is also working on similar projects to connect new industrial zones and a number of facilities under Naftal, as well as other vital infrastructure across the country, to the rail network.
