National meetings began Friday in Burkina Faso to appoint a transitional president, two weeks after a second putsch in eight months which brought to power Captain Ibrahim Traoré, whose supporters want him to be appointed.

More than 200,000 Zimbabweans could be forced out of South Africa as residence permits expire. The Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) has enabled hundreds of thousands of families to live and work in South Africa. Civil society organizations are taking the government to court, claiming the measure is xenophobic.
