The women’s cross-country race is the first highlight of the Olympic mountain biking event near Paris. Laura Stigger and Mona Mitterwallner started for Austria.
The race started at 2:10 pm in fine weather. Countless fans lined up at the Colline d’Elancourt circuit west of Paris. Laura Stigger is off to a great start.
The Frenchwoman at the front, Pauline Ferrand Prevot, was having a lonely race, much to the delight of the fans; after five of seven laps she was almost three minutes ahead . The field behind them has shrunk. Laura Stigger is one of four riders still fighting for silver and bronze medals.
