“He was a man who was always thinking about others, especially me and his two children,” said his wife, Ann Faucette, recalling that on the last night before he died, her husband was lying in his bed and worrying about himself. His sister had already slept.
Faucette was close to almost certain death due to heart failure, as other health problems made him unsuitable for a traditional transplant. In this context, on September 20, surgeons at the University of Maryland hospital transplanted the organ, thus becoming the second operation of this type in the world, after the same team carried out the first in 2022.
