The beautiful summer of French cinemas

It’s a “comeback” worthy of an American film. While French cinemas had a moribund start to the year, from January to April, due to the delay in the release of Hollywood blockbusters resulting from the writers’ strikes, the recovery that began in May, thanks to the unexpected success of Artus’ comedy “Un p’tit truc en plus”, which should pass 10 million admissions this month (9.9 million on August 11), was confirmed this summer.

Between January 1 and August 11, French theaters accumulated more than 110 million admissions, according to Richard Patry, the president of the National Federation of French Cinemas (FNCF). That is a decline of only 6% compared to the same period in 2023 (compared to -17.1% at the end of April according to the CNC). “It’s really very encouraging, because we’ve come a long way,” he sighs.
