The Maple Leafs added defensive depth to the roster after Morgan Rielly left Saturday’s contest with an injury, sportsnet.ca reported. Defenceman Cole McWard earned the call-up from the Toronto Marlies, while forward Vinni Lettieri went down to the AHL in the corresponding transaction, according to The Hockey News’ David Alter.
McWard, 25, has spent time up with the big club this season but has yet to see game action. In seven contests with the Marlies, the right-shot blueliner has four assists and is a plus-3.

The right-shot defender joined Toronto on a two-year deal in the off-season. He carries nine games of NHL experience into the call, having previously tallied one goal at the highest level.
Vinni Lettieri played in eight games for the Maple Leafs this season, totaling one goal. However, the veteran forward has spent much of his time in Toronto in the AHL.
Lettieri appeared in five games for the Marlies this season. That stint follows 55 appearances last year while helping the Marlies win the Calder Cup, sportsnet.ca noted.
