Al Jazeera’s correspondent said that the Lebanese-Israeli border witnessed an exchange of gunfire and aircraft overflights on Monday after an infiltration operation from Lebanon into Israel, after which the Israeli army announced that it had killed two people who attempted to infiltrate.
The correspondent added that an Israeli raid took place near sites belonging to the International Emergency Forces (UNIFIL) on the outskirts of the town of Yarin, southern Lebanon.
The Israeli army said that their helicopters were launching raids on several sites in Lebanese territory after the infiltration attempt, stressing that they were continuing to comb the area.
The Lebanese Army called on citizens to be careful and not to go to the border areas in order to preserve their safety after the border areas were exposed to Israeli bombing.
Three Israeli soldiers were injured in an exchange of fire with gunmen who infiltrated from Lebanese territory, according to Israeli Channel 13, while the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the Israeli army bombed Hezbollah observation posts in the infiltration area in the western sector of southern Lebanon.
For its part, Lebanese Hezbollah denied – in a statement – its responsibility for the infiltration, saying that they did not carry out any operation inside Israel, and did not confirm that its positions were exposed to Israeli bombing.
The incident comes a day after the party announced that it had fired large numbers of artillery shells and guided missiles at Israeli positions in the occupied Shebaa Farms, amid the continued Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip in the wake of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades launching the “Al-Aqsa Flood” military operation against Israel.
According to Agence France-Presse, the Lebanese Hezbollah has close relations with the Hamas movement, which led the Al-Aqsa Flood operation and has so far left more than 700 dead on the Israeli side.
