Lebanese man recovers money from bank following taking hostages
Security forces in Lebanon arrested a citizen for detaining dozens of auditors and employees in a branch of the Bank of Beirut and the Arab Countries.
The citizen threatened to set fire to the bank and “explode it”, following he came from his hometown to the bank and demanded that $50,000 be withdrawn from his account, but the bank refused to give him his money.
After negotiating between him and the security forces and the bank’s management, he was able to obtain his deposit, which was held in the bank, and handed it over to a member of his family, then surrendered himself to the security forces. Since 2019, Lebanese banks have refused to hand over money to depositors, under the pretext of the financial crisis.
