Five fighters from Hezbollah and its ally Amal Movement were killed by Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon overnight Thursday into Friday, the two organizations said.
These strikes followed a series of bloody incidents on the border between Lebanon and Israelwhere exchanges of fire between Hezbollah and Israeli forces have increased, raising fears of further escalation.
According to the ANI agency, the Israeli Air Force carried out strikes against five villages in southern Lebanon overnight.
The Shiite Amal movement, led by parliament speaker Nabih Berri, announced the death of three of its members in an attack on a house in the village of al-Kandara.
For its part, Hezbollah pointed out that two of its fighters were killed. These deaths bring to 12 the number of members of the Lebanese Shiite movement who have lost their lives since Wednesday.
According to iefimerida, Hezbollah announced last Thursday night that it fired dozens of rockets at northern Israel in response to yesterday’s Israeli airstrikes that killed 15 people.
Ten civilians and five Hezbollah members, including a military commander, were killed yesterday in Lebanon. On the Israeli side, a soldier was killed by a rocket fired from Lebanon. At present, no organization has claimed responsibility for this launch.
Wednesday was the bloodiest day in more than four months, when the firefight between Hezbollah and the Israeli army began.
The Shiite movement has opened a front in southern Lebanon to support its ally Hamas, which is at war with Israel in Gaza Strip from October 7.
Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah is expected to deliver a new speech today, his second this week. Since October 7, at least 268 people, mostly fighters from Hezbollah and other organizations, but also 40 civilians have been killed in southern Lebanon, according to an AFP count.
On the Israeli side ten soldiers and six civilians have been killed, according to the army.
