A leader of the Palestinian Fatah movement was shot dead Monday in the Palestinian refugee camp of Aïn el-Héloué in southern Lebanon, said a local Fatah leader. Said Alaeddine held the rank of officer in President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah movement, in charge of liaison with the Lebanese security forces, according to local military chief Mounir al-Maqdah. He was shot and killed by an unknown man who shot him while he was praying in a friend’s house in the camp, according to the same source. Said Alaeddine was taken to hospital where he died. The motives of the assailant who managed to flee are not immediately known. Tens of thousands of Palestinian refugees live in Lebanon, most of them in the country’s 12 camps, including that of Aïn Héloué, the largest, located near Saïda.
