Lebanese President Aoun has affirmed that the national army must be the “sole authority for security” in the southern region of the country.
Calling for the military to return fully to the area to assume its responsibilities, Aoun positioned the army as the only legitimate security force for the south. This demand emphasizes a transition toward centralized state control over the region’s security apparatus.
The President stated that the path of negotiation is currently the only option available to the state. Aoun noted that this direction is being pursued after other potential solutions, including war, have been exhausted.
In a direct reference to Hizbollah and the potential for internal instability, Aoun warned that attempts to stir religious or sectarian strife would fail. He explicitly defined the maintenance of civil peace as a “red line.”
