LOS ANGELES (AP) — LeBron James had 30 points, nine assists and seven rebounds as the Los Angeles Lakers earned their seventh win in their last nine games, beating the San Antonio Spurs 123-118 on Friday.

Anthony Davis contributed 28 points and 13 rebounds to the Lakers’ cause.

Victor Wembanyama finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, in his first visit to the Lakers. The Frenchman, a rookie sensation, scored 16 points by looking dominant in the first quarter, but Davis responded in the duel between first draft picks, by shining in the next two quarters.

Thus, the Lakers managed to preserve their advantage.

Davis rested throughout the fourth quarter — the Lakers had also played the night before. But Jaxson Hayes looked in his place once morest Wembanyama, and Los Angeles cruised smoothly to its twelfth win in 18 games.

San Antonio finished with a 17-5 run in the last three and a half minutes, to considerably reduce the final margin.
