“My family is the sixth generation to make Lebzelter, wax maker and Metsieder and they come from Mariazell. It’s a very old trade and we produce more than 400 items by hand. I’m talking regarding 80 types of Lebkuchen, spirits and Candles. Many don’t know that, but there is an interesting connection. In the past, pilgrims mainly came to the pilgrimage site of Mariazell on foot. After their arrival, they had to be taken care of. So the honey wine called mead was served, and as provisions for the way back packed gingerbread.
