On the 30th, the ‘2023 Future Dialogue for Global Innovation’ was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno-gu, Seoul, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Youngji Lee gave a special speech on this day on the topic of the influence of popular culture.
Youngji Lee began by saying, “I hope you have a hobby or taste.” He explained that there are more people who cannot do that than you might think. He added that it doesn’t matter if he is disparaged by people around him as being eccentric or small and insignificant. She emphasized that she hopes that whatever hobby she has, she will continue to love it and shine.
Youngji Lee said, “Contradictoryly, the most pure and eccentric things are often loved as the most popular things,” and added, “People who know how to make and love their own things in any way become people who lead culture.”
He noted that he was not particularly talented or loved. Lee Young-ji recalled, “(Still) I was the most eccentric and unique person in any situation,” and “Thankfully, I was able to receive a lot of love in the entertainment industry while trying many different things.”
In Youngji Lee’s opinion, pop culture is something that anyone can enjoy and create. It is a ‘popular culture’ because literally anyone can do it. He expressed his hope that people would become interested in culture and that the entire world would be covered with K-culture. Of course, in the process, Youngji Lee cheerfully confessed her true feelings, saying that she wished she were in the lead, causing laughter.
Youngji Lee won Mnet’s ‘High School Rapper 3’ in 2019 and debuted with ‘Dark Room’. She also became the first female winner of ‘Show Me the Money 11’.
With her confident and independent personality without worrying about what others think, Lee Young-ji has been given the title of ‘representative of the MZ generation’, and is currently active in various broadcasts and receiving great love.
