Left field to be expanded in Baltimore

On the 30th anniversary of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, home of the Orioles, pitchers—both local and opposition—might feel more comfortable in the ballpark.

The Orioles have decided to move the left field wall away and make it double the height, to try to “take this significant step toward neutrality.”

Right now, the Baltimore team is in the process of moving the wall regarding 26 1/2 feet away, which will now be 13 feet instead of 7-4. The changes must be complete by Opening Day 2022.

A big factor in the decision to make the adjustments is that pitchers in free agency have a tendency to be reluctant to sign with the Orioles, knowing the conditions at Oriole Park.

The distance down the left field foul pole will remain 333 feet, but in the canal it will be 384. The new distance through center field will be 400 feet.
