This weekend in Fortnite took place the Big Bang event, which marked both the end of the Original season and that of Chapter 4. The opportunity to once again wipe the slate clean, and launch a whole new dynamic. And suffice to say that Epic Games did not do things by halves.
This weekend’s event, “rebroadcast” twice, was followed by more than 11.6 million players connected simultaneously. Without being particularly significant, the Big Bang event forced players to say goodbye to the first map of Fortnite, returning temporarily. The island was sucked into utter nothingness, and players were transported to a multitude of different universes. Season 5 was launched on Sunday, December 3, but Epic Games did not just restart the machine. This multidimensional journey is materialized by multiple announcements, and not the least: three games will directly integrate Fortnite!
Races and music: Epic Games is putting its studios to work for Fortnite!
So let’s start with Rocket Racing which, as you might have guessed, twists the Rocket League proposition. Players present during the event were able to try their hand at gameplay arcade, full of crazy turns, boosts to use and aerial dodges. It seems very nervous, and particularly fun to play. It remains to be seen whether Psyonix has simply created a gimmick which will quickly find its limits, or if the studio said to itself that it was time to make football player cars into real racing cars. Anyway, several circuits will be offered, and it will be available in Fortnite from December 8 through a simple update!
At the same time, Epic Games is continuing its integration of music into Fortnite, already widely highlighted through a certain number of concerts. During the Big Bang event, it was Eminem who introduced Fortnite Festival, a new musical game imagined by Harmonix, studio behind which we find Rock Band. In this new game (or mode), players create a band with friends or perform solo on stage”to the music of their favorite artists“. Here again, Epic is not pretending since it is the group The Weeknd which will kick off Season 1 of Fortnite Festival as the first Musical Icon. Fortnite Festival expected to go live from December 9that is to say Saturday.
LEGO x Fortnite: the partnership between the two universes comes to life!
In addition to competing in a classic way, without construction, meeting up with friends and attending events, Fortnite players will be able to race thanks to Psyonix or be an artist with Fortnite Festival. But the biggest announcement remains that of LEGO Fortnite, a game in its own right also directly integrated into the battle royale. We knew that LEGO and Epic Games had concluded a very long-term agreement, but we had no idea that this would give rise to a complete open world game in which survival and creation combine. Most of the iconic elements of Fortnite will become LEGOs (yes, even the llama), but we still don’t know what exact form this brand new experience will have which, on paper, has everything to be a hit. We won’t have time to theorize or debate a lot about what LEGO Fortnite is anyway, since this adventure will be integrated from December 7, that is to say in three days at the time these lines are written. Come on, little bonus: 1200 Fortnite costumes will be available LEGO style. On the other hand, nothing has yet been announced in terms of physical LEGO Fortnite sets, although this would not surprise anyone.
