FILM Possession: Possession, produced by Falcon Black and directed by Razka Robby Ertanto, will be shown in cinemas starting May 8 2024. The film is an adaptation of the French film entitled Possession by Andrzej Zulawski.
The film Possession Possession stars Darius Sinathrya, Carissa Perusset, Sara Fajira, and Arswendi Bening Swara. In this adaptation, Falcon Black and Robby collaborated with screenwriter Lele Laila, who is famous for her horror film screenplays.
In the film Possession Possesukan, the figure of Pocong also appears in the film. Pocong in this film was transformed from a bolster pillow in the room of husband and wife Faris (Darius) and Ratna (Carissa). Robby explained that pocong was presented because this film wanted to show something close to the Indonesian context. Meanwhile, screenwriter Lele Laila added that the pocong figure in the film Possession Possesukan is likened to a bolster in human life.
“What’s more scary in the film Possession Possesukan is the man rather than the pocong. Why don’t we show other forms of demons that tempt humans? In fact, there are semiotics of bolster pillows that exist between men and women every day. “And it seems like no one has compared the pocong to the guling in the film,” said Lele Laila during a press conference after the screening of the film Possession Kerasukan at XXI Plaza Indonesia, Central Jakarta, Friday, (3/5/2024).
According to Lele, after discussions with producer Frederica and director Robby Ertanto, pocong, which was associated with bolster pillows because of the film Possession Kerasukan, was reluctant to be stuck with a horror film that was associated with the appearance of ghosts seducing humans and the rituals behind them.
“We wanted something that was close and always used by Indonesian people. After doing research, almost everyone uses bolster pillows when sleeping. Guling can be identified with pocong. “So when we remake this French film in Indonesia, we try to understand it so that the context also has locality,” added Robby Ertanto.
“In this film there are many symbols that we want to talk about human desires themselves. Sometimes humans are afraid of demons, but humans also behave like demons sometimes. “We tried to interpret their lust like a symbol, it’s not absolutely Satanic, just a symbol,” continued Robby. (Z-10)
