“Leo Rammerstorfer’s Journey in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup: Updates, Results, and Future Goals”

“It’s very different from where I come from. There’s a lot I still have to learn. Now I just look from race to race and take the good with me. Then hopefully it should still work very well,” said Leo Rammerstorfer to SPEEDWEEK.com after the second race of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup last weekend.

This was preceded by positions 21 and 20 in the two races at the second stop of the season in Jerez de la Frontera in southern Spain. In qualifying, the 18-year-old Austrian left four drivers behind in 21st place. Despite failures, he also ended up in the races in this area. He then summed up: “It was a difficult weekend. In the first free practice session, the set-up didn’t really work. Then we improved in every further training session – in terms of the set-up, but also in terms of the lap times.”

Leo didn’t think the first race was really good. His start was bad and then in the first two laps he had already lost touch with the group in front of him. “For the second race we went back a bit with the set-up. The bike was much better then. Also the start and the first two laps. Then, unfortunately, two riders fell in front of me, so I lost contact with my group again. Nevertheless, my pace was quite good at the beginning and I want to build on that now. Now we’ll see what’s next in Le Mans », he immediately said combatively again.

Of course, Rammerstorfer would like to finish in the points as quickly as possible, but he knows that everyone else is improving too. “I have to improve faster and even more,” he said succinctly. And further: “If I could further reduce the gap to the front, I would be satisfied. I’ve done that in every race so far and I hope I can continue to do so. Maybe I can set a highlight at the Red Bull Ring – that would be really great.”

Since he and Jakob Rosenthaler are two Austrians in this year’s Red Bull Rookies Cup, becoming the best Austrian would be an interesting goal for him. «Maybe not in terms of points, because Jakob is already driving for the third year. He should have more pressure there. But if I could annoy him a bit towards the end of the season and finish ahead of him, that would be a goal, »said Leo about his further season schedule and added: «It’s best to do it like in the IDM – learn in the first year and score points regularly in the second year.”
