The words of the “Gentlemen of Fortune” star turned out to be prophetic.
Elizaveta Nikishchikhina became famous as the queen of episodes. Over the years of her career, she took part in dozens of films, choosing bright but unusual characters. The audience was delighted with her performance, but had no idea how difficult life had been for their idol.
Even at school, Nikishchikhina realized that she wanted to be an artist. She managed to enter the studio at the Stanislavsky Theater, and at the age of 19 she was entrusted with the main role in the production of Antigone, where she was supposed to play together with Yevgeny Leonov. The happy actress immediately agreed to the role, but very soon found out that she was pregnant. She chose the scene by terminating the pregnancy, and remembered her colleague’s reaction for the rest of her life.
“You will get this role. But think carefully. You have had a difficult fate.” – Leonov said then.
And the artist’s words turned out to be prophetic. None of Nikishchikhina’s three marriages turned out to be happy. In 1973, she gave birth to a daughter, Catherine, but was forced to send the heiress to her father in the United States, where he emigrated. And because of this, Katya was offended by her all her life.
The directors did not trust the actress with the main roles. They almost always invited her to appear in episodes, and in the 90s they almost stopped filming her altogether. The screen star spent the last years of her life alone in a communal apartment. And she died at the age of 56.
