Let’s Stop Together: Effective Ways to Quit Smoking and Improve Your Health

In this No Tobacco Month, the health establishment hosted a stand of the League Against Cancer on Tuesday November 21 to provide explanations to people wishing to stop smoking. Annie, tobacco specialist from the League, and Arielle Thérond, the volunteer manager of the Espace Ligue delegation in Pont-Saint-Esprit, welcomed people to their stand, distributing leaflets.

On the stand, a 40-day program to stop smoking was distributed. A sort of booklet, where, every day, an explanatory page accompanies the smoker. With this “Let’s stop together” protocol, a month of kit is offered.

“Your motivation will help you not to break down during difficult times,” says Annie. For her, smokers now have effective ways to quit smoking. Some people achieve this alone, but others need to be accompanied by a health professional. “This increases your chances of successfully quitting smoking by 70%,” she points out.

Quitting smoking can be done through behavioral and cognitive therapy, namely psychological treatment which helps the smoker to modify their behavior. “It can help you not to reach for a cigarette in the presence of a smoker, to no longer associate cigarettes with coffee for example, to manage your stress other than by smoking,” Annie explains.
