Troinex, September 19
The path from Drize to Troinex is lined with terraced houses and a few trees that have valiantly survived densification. The speeders’ nightmare: narrow, winding, you have to slow down, wait behind the bikes and, when a truck passes, it’s a guaranteed jam. And, every day, thousands of vehicles in transit.
Ten years ago, the municipal authorities decided to “secure the movement of cyclists and pedestrians”. A 30 km/h zone, punctuated by avoidances and speed bumps, has been set up, the result of consultation between authorities and residents. Efficient. End of works in 2016.
Surprise then, when two years later, we learned that a bus was going to pass in this same way, requiring the dismantling of the installations freshly carried out. We presented our grievances, concerns and proposals to the authorities, but the decision had already been made, without appeal! In the end, bus 49 should cross the Drize path 40 to 60 times a day, plus the usual transit traffic, plus that of the neighboring path which will be closed…
And the cyclists in this project? Nothing: no bike path, the path is too narrow. The widened sidewalk will probably be able to accommodate them, but watch out for fines! Beware again of the 15 centimeter granite border, threatening for two wheels. The Drize path would be straight, three meters wide, speed bumps adapted to the bus, therefore comfortable for all vehicles… the happiness of speeders! Because it’s all about speed: how to get from Veyrier to Bachet, saving the few extra minutes necessary for the passage of the bus on the cantonal roads, adapted. Is it really about soft mobility?
