Sporting director Simon Rolfes of Bayer Leverkusen has given a clear goal for the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals against Union Saint-Gilloise. “We’re going to Belgium to win there and get on. That’s the only thing that counts,” said Rolfes after the 0-0 draw at VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga: “We’re excited for Thursday. We want to take our chance, we want to go to the semifinals.”
And coach Xabi Alonso said: “We have a great chance. Reaching the semi-finals is a great motivation for everyone.” The first leg in Leverkusen ended 1-1.
Bayer’s Bundesliga winning streak of five games ended against Wolfsburg, but the Werkself secured sixth place in the table with a point. “Unfortunately, the chances didn’t go in today.
