LG announced on Friday (03) the availability of several Apple services on televisions with webOS Hub, the manufacturer’s operating system optimized to be compatible with third-party models. With this, all users of the platform will have the options of listen to music with Apple Music and watch movies and series in the Apple TV catalog.
In addition to the big tech North American streaming applications, users running webOS Hub 2.0 will be able to connect HomeKit compatible devices and play content via AirPlay, bringing a much more integrated experience to televisions from different brands with LG software.
For now, a complete list of brands that have televisions with webOS Hub is not disclosed, but LG mentions Seiki, Eko, Stream System, Konka, Aiwa and Hyundai. The company also specifies that only 4K and OLED TV models running webOS Hub 2.0 will support Apple’s AirPlay and HomeKit.
This is yet another initiative to make their open source project more popular among different Smart TV manufacturers. According to the South Korean giant, the current number of models available with webOS Hub is ten times greater than that assessed at the beginning of 2021.
