LG brings Apple services to more smart TVs with webOS

A LG announced that, starting today, more smart TVs equipped with its webOS Hub will gain support for AirPlayto HomeKit and the apps Apple TV e Apple Music in more than 100 countries and regions. Until then, only devices manufactured by LG itself had these Apple features and services.

Among the approximately 200 brands that produce televisions equipped with the South Korean giant’s operating system and that will be covered by this expansion, are: Seiki, Eko, Stream System, Konka, Aiwa and Hyundai. However, it is worth noting that only OLED and UHD TVs equipped with the webOS Hub 2.0 — released in 2022 — will support AirPlay and HomeKit.

As highlighted by LG itself, the Apple TV app gives users access to the Apple TV+ catalog and over 100,000 movies and series from the iTunes Store to buy or rent. The Apple Music app, in turn, gives access to more than 100 million songs on the service, which also includes playlists, music videos, lyrics and more.

HomeKit support allows user to control their device from iPhone using the Siri you app Casa (“Home”) and create automations. AirPlay, in turn, allows the user to mirror content from their iPhone, iPad or Mac to take advantage of the larger screen of their television — LG has not made it clear, however, whether the supported version is about AirPlay 2 or not.

Still according to the South Korean company, the idea is to make these resources available to an even larger audience of people, since most of these brands produce input devices with prices that are much more affordable than those practiced by the company.

And you, do you have a smart TV from any of these brands?
