TRIPOLI, June 18 (Xinhua) — Libya’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday condemned the “treacherous” attack on a secondary school in southwestern Uganda that left at least 41 people dead.

Libya “stresses its support and solidarity with Uganda and extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims, to the government and to the friendly people of Uganda,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry reiterated Libya’s firm stance in condemning any terrorist or hateful practice, emphasizing its support for regional and international efforts against such acts.

Suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels attacked Lhubirira Secondary School in Mpondwe, a Ugandan town about two km from the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), on Friday evening, killing at least 37 students, one security guard and three people from the local community, according to police and military sources.

The ADF group, which is a branch of the Islamic State in central Africa entrenched in the jungles of eastern DRC, is accused of causing havoc in villages in the region. The Ugandan army and its Congolese counterpart have launched joint operations against this rebel group since November 2021. End
