A medical team in the Saudi city of Al-Qunfudhah was able to extract a car key stuck in the respiratory system of a forty-year-old patient, in a 15-minute operation through binoculars, and resulted in saving his life.

Al-Qunfudhah Health Ministry stated that the patient, who is 49 years old, arrived at the emergency department suffering from a blockage in the airway. After the clinical examination and X-rays, it became clear that a car key was stuck in the trachea.

The patient admitted to the treating doctors that he had swallowed the key while he was playing with it, which caused him a partial suffocation that required surgical intervention through binoculars to extract the stuck metal object.

It was decided immediately to admit the patient to the operations department and to intensify his health care for him being a heart patient, and the surgical intervention was performed through the endoscope and the key was extracted, and then the case was followed up through the inpatient department until his health condition stabilized and he was discharged safely.
