The victim of the accident which occurred Thursday morning on the railway line 124 (Brussels-Charleroi) in Lillois-Witterzée, in the entity of Braine-l’Alleud, had tried to cross the tracks while the barriers were lowered, indicated Thursday afternoon the spokesperson for the Walloon Brabant prosecutor’s office.
The accident occurred Thursday shortly after 9:00 a.m. at rue René Francq, near the Lillois-Witterzée station. A 21-year-old girl from Court-Saint-Étienne was hit by a train as she crossed the tracks. She was killed instantly.
The prosecution confirms favoring the accidental thesis. “The person concerned had noticed that a train was at a standstill in the station. She probably thought she could cross without imagining that another train could arise on the other track, which happened”comments the spokesperson for the Walloon Brabant prosecution.
Rail traffic was interrupted between Braine-l’Alleud and Nivelles, until Thursday around 11:00 a.m.
