Disney is officially expanding its live-action universe with the confirmed sequel Lilo & Stitch 2, slated for theatrical release on May 28, 2028, and bringing a beloved fan-favorite alien into the fold.
Angel Arrives in Live-Action
During the D23 fan event in Anaheim, California, Disney revealed that the upcoming sequel will introduce Angel, also known as Experiment 624, into the live-action franchise. Maia Kealoha, who portrays Lilo, took to the stage to present the new chapter while Stitch greeted audiences from the screen, according to reporting by Daninseries.
The studio treated fans to a first look at the character through a teaser image showcasing Angel’s distinct pink coloring and glowing antennae. ComingSoon noted that a teaser trailer debuted at the showcase, using Angel’s long pink antennas to first form a heart shape before revealing the number 2.
For longtime fans of the franchise, Angel is a familiar face. Originally introduced in the animated television project Lilo & Stitch: The Series, she serves as Stitch’s primary romantic interest. Beyond her bond with the blue alien, the character wields a dangerous ability: her siren song possesses the power to revert previously redeemed experiments back to the side of evil.
Behind the Camera and Box Office Success
The fast-tracked greenlight for a sequel follows the massive commercial performance of the first live-action adaptation. Released in 2025 and directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, the initial film crossed the milestone of $1 billion at the worldwide box office, prompting Disney to announce the sequel just one month after the original hit theaters.

Creative leadership is seeing a notable transition for the follow-up. According to Daninseries, Chris Sanders—the original voice of Stitch and co-director of the 2002 animated classic—will direct the live-action sequel. Sanders also wrote and directed the project, bridging the gap between the animated origins and the modern cinematic adaptations.
Expanding the Franchise Timeline
As Disney continues to build out its slate of live-action adaptations, the studio is pairing its promotional efforts creatively. Before Lilo & Stitch 2 arrives in cinemas in May 2028, the franchise will accompany the release of Hexed, a new animated Disney film, with an attached short film titled Lilo & Scratch, as reported by ComingSoon.

With the inclusion of Experiment 624, the dynamics of the cinematic universe are shifting. As production moves forward under Sanders’ direction, how do you think Angel’s siren song will impact Stitch’s life on Earth? Let us know your thoughts below.
