Linux Kernel 6.13 First Release Candidate Announced

The release of the final version of Linux Kernel 6.13 is expected by the end of January 2025, but today Linus Torvalds announced his first Release Candidate with availability for public testing. The new version can now be downloaded from the official website or from kernel.org.

Highlights of the new version include support for running in protected virtual machines (realm) with Arm CCA and Guarded Control Stack (GCS) user, as well as support for Intel’s 6-node sub-NUMA clustering and ACPI backlighting for the 11.2″ MacBook Pro and Air.

Additionally, this release also brings support for uAPI characters to notify about changes added to the kernel by users, makes the amd-pstate cpufreq driver the default for newer AMD Epyc processors. It also brings support for thermal limits via netflink and PMU for H-series Intel Arrow Lake chips.
