STORIES TO FOLLOW ON GATEWAY
— Denny Hamlin He earned his second victory of the year last weekend in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Hamlin’s only other Top 10 finish this year is a fourth-place finish at Kansas Speedway, a points race before his win at Charlotte.
— The Last Pilot to have multiple wins with only three Top 10 finishes in 14 races in one season was Derrike Cope in 1990.
— Hamlin’s victory it was also his 48th career win, tying him with Herb Thomas for 16th on the all-time wins list and putting him one win short of Tony Stewart’s career win total (49).
— Ricky Stenhouse Jr. finished inside the Top 10 in each of his last four races, a career winning streak and the first time JTG Daugherty Racing has accomplished that feat.
— Christopher Bell he has also scored four Top 10 finishes in a row, tying the best streak of his career.
— Hendrick Motorsports he has led 99,902.9 miles in the Cup Series and is 98 miles away from crossing 100,000. Hendrick will break that barrier if all four team drivers combine to lead 79 laps Sunday at Gateway.
— Kyle Larson He has a 12-race winless streak, the longest since joining Hendrick Motorsports in 2021.
— Overtaking for victory he came in the last 10 laps in 11 of the 14 races in 2022.
— Martin Truex Jr. is making his 600th start this weekend. Only Richard Petty won in his 600th Cup start (Richmond in February 1973).

Goodyear tires ????
Although Cup Series cars have never competed at WWT Raceway, the teams will get experience with this weekend’s tire package.
Goodyear will provide teams with the same left and right side tires that were used at both Phoenix Raceway in March and Richmond Raceway in April.
“Having a 50-minute practice run and three sets of tires with a familiar tire configuration will be a huge advantage for the Cup Series teams at Gateway this week,” said Greg Stucker, Goodyear Director of Racing. “As this is an inaugural event, NASCAR gives teams this time to perfect their car set-up, and that will give them plenty of time to prepare for the race. They already have a good idea of what these tires will do, having run this setup at Phoenix and Richmond, so the teams will unload closer to what they will install and get up to speed much quicker.”
History at Gateway ⏩
— The race promoter Chris Pook purchased the Gateway International Raceway in 1995, a facility that consisted of a 1/8-mile race track, a quarter-mile track, and a 2.6-mile loop.
– Placewho previously promoted the Long Beach Grand Prix Formula 1 and CART races, immediately demolished the existing tracks and began construction of a new infield oval track and NHRA-approved race track.
— The first big event track was a CART race on May 24, 1997, which was won by Paul Tracy.
— NASCAR’s first foray at the facility was an Xfinity Series race on July 26, 1997, won by Elliott Sadler. The series competed on Gateway until 2010.
— Dover Motorsports, Inc. bought the track from Pook in 1998.
— La Camping World Truck he made his first visit to Gateway on September 19, 1998, with a race won by Rick Carelli. Carelli currently works for Erik Jones and the No. 43 Petty GMS Motorsports team.
– In 2010, Dover Motorsports, Inc. announced that Gateway would officially close. In 2011, Curtis Francois, a retired driver and real estate developer, announced the purchase and reopening of the 160-acre facility for the 2012 season. The track was renamed Gateway Motorsports Park.
— NASCAR and the facility announced the return of the Truck Series to Gateway for 2014, the first NASCAR-sanctioned race at the track since 2010.
— Gateway increased to over 200 acres and is the region’s largest outdoor entertainment facility, encompassing a quarter-mile NHRA-approved race track, a 1.25-mile NASCAR oval, a 1.6-mile road course, a recently built world-class karting facility, upgraded grandstands, and a recently completed fan pavilion.
— The oval was resurfaced in 2017 after the Truck Series race.
— Early 2019Gateway Motorsports Park and World Wide Technology, a leading technology solutions provider, have entered into a long-term naming rights commitment and renamed the World Wide Technology Raceway motorsports facility at Gateway.
— Nine of the 36 pilots entered in Sunday’s race have won an Xfinity or Truck Series race at Gateway.
