Lithuania is commemorating the 34th anniversary of the restoration of Independence

In the morning, a flower-laying ceremony is scheduled at the “Žinia” monument dedicated to March 11 in Independence Square, later in the Seimas there will be a commemoration dedicated to the Restoration of Independence Day and the awarding ceremony of the State Independence Scholarship.

Speaker of the Seimas Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen will start the solemn commemoration with a congratulatory speech. Deputy of the Supreme Council, signatory of the Act of Independence of Lithuania Algirdas Saudargas, historian Inga Zakšauskienė, writer Jurga Tumasonytė, Deputy Speaker of the Seimas, chairwoman of the European Affairs Committee Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė, anesthesiologist-reanimatologist Rokas Tamašauskas will also speak at the event.

The chairman of the independence scholarship awarding commission, Virginijus Valentinavičius, will present Laurynas Peluričius, the laureate of the State Independence Scholarship. The scholarship was awarded to him for the project “State building as a cultural task in the world of broken connections: reactualization of the cultural philosophy of Stasios Šalkauskis”.

A flag-raising ceremony of the Three Baltic States is being held at Independence Square in the capital on Monday at noon. Right after it, the Honor Guard Company of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the Lithuanian Armed Forces Orchestra will march in the center of Vilnius. The route is planned along Gediminas Avenue from Independence Square to Cathedral Square.

In the afternoon, a celebratory march “Road of Independence Restoration” along Gediminas Avenue from Independence Square to Cathedral Square with Lithuanian and Ukrainian flag strips is also planned. The traditional procession will be greeted by orchestras in the squares.

On Monday, the Little St. Christopher’s sign awarding ceremony for students of the capital.

On the occasion of Independence Day, the State Knowledge Center invites you to visit and participate in activities. Open door hours will be held in the Seimas I Chamber, the Lithuanian Freedom Defenders and Stained Glass galleries. There will be performances by art groups, children’s creative workshops, screenings of short documentaries, and exhibitions.

On the initiative of the Cadet Council of General Jonas Žemaitis Lithuanian Military Academy, songs and memories will be heard around the campfire in the evening on the historic Table Mountain. The Lithuanian national anthem will be sung here.

Public transport in the capital will be free and will run according to Saturday traffic schedules.

Festive events are scheduled for Monday in many Lithuanian cities and towns.
