The little boy who had been extubated following a decision by the Court of Appeal last January is breathing normally and will be able to go home on Monday.

That’s what the child’s mother told CTV News on Sunday.

“He has been extubated for two months, and by the grace of God he is breathing,” she said.

Recall that in June 2022, his then five-year-old son fell into a coma after nearly drowning in the family pool. The little boy was rescued after spending 20 minutes underwater.

After months spent in the intensive care unit at the CHU Sainte-Justine, the doctors recommended extubation. The health establishment, however, had to turn to the courts, in November 2022, because it did not agree with the parents on how to carry out the extubation. The latter wanted the child to be reintubated again in the event of a problem.

It was last January that the Court of Appeal finally ruled and sided with the CHU Sainte-Justine.

The magistrate had in particular considered that it was in the interest of the child to extubate him, considering among other things the consequences and suffering caused by the ventilatory assistance device.

The child’s parents also told CTV News that they will celebrate their son’s recovery outside the hospital during “a peaceful rally” when he is discharged on Monday.
