Liverpool defeats Aston Villa and regains sixth place

Liverpool beat Aston Villa 3-1 thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Stefan Pejsic to advance to sixth in the English Premier League on Monday.

Salah gave the visitors the lead following five minutes, following two wonderful passes between the full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.

Defender Van Dyck added the second goal in the 37th minute with a powerful shot with his left foot, following a pass from Salah.

Ollie Watkins narrowed the deficit for the hosts with a wonderful header in the far corner of goalkeeper Alisson Becker’s goal in the 59th minute.

The 18-year-old Bectic sealed Liverpool’s victory nine minutes before the end, scoring his first goal with the first team.

The two teams had opportunities in an enjoyable match, as they relied on long balls behind the defenders.

Darwin Nunez, Liverpool striker, wasted many opportunities, including a direct shot that was saved by Villa goalkeeper.

Villa remained in 12th place and has 18 points, compared to 25 points for Liverpool, which is one point behind its rivals Manchester United, fifth in the standings, and 12 points behind leaders Arsenal, who face West Ham United at a later time.
