Loans: Decrease by €1.7 billion in Q4 2023 – 2024-03-21 19:49:39

According to the statistics published by the Bank of Greece (BoG) on March 19, 2024, loans managed by servicers and funds in the Greek economy showed a decrease in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Specifically, a decrease of 1.72 billion euros was recorded in the nominal value of domestic private sector loans, which are managed by domestic servicers and have been transferred to specialized financial institutions abroad (funds), while the total value of loans in this category decreased to 69.466 billion euros at the end of the fourth quarter of 2023, compared to 71.186 billion euros in the previous quarter.

It should be noted that from the fourth quarter of 2022, the nominal value of the loans does not include unaccounted interest and write-offs from the credit institutions that transferred the loan portfolio. The change in methodology was made to harmonize the statistical data with the corresponding supervisory ones.

Loans to businesses

As pointed out by TtEthe nominal value of business loans under management decreased to 22.848 billion euros at the end of the fourth quarter of 2023, from 23.953 billion euros at the end of the previous quarter.

In more detail, the nominal value of loans to non-financial enterprises (NFCs) decreased by 1.080 billion euros and amounted to 22.810 billion euros at the end of the fourth quarter of 2023. Of the loans under management to NFCs, an amount of 11.537 billion. euros concerns loans to small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The nominal value of loans under management to other financial institutions decreased by 25 million euros and amounted to 38 million euros at the end of the fourth quarter of 2023.

Loans to freelancers, farmers and sole proprietorships

The nominal value of loans under management to self-employed professionals, farmers and sole proprietorships decreased by 542 million euros compared to the previous quarter and amounted to 9.051 billion euros at the end of the fourth quarter of 2023.

Loans to individuals and private non-profit institutions

According to newsit, the nominal value of loans under management to individuals and private non-profit institutions decreased by 74 million euros compared to the previous quarter and amounted to 37.566 billion euros at the end of the fourth quarter of 2023.

In more detail, consumer loans under management showed a decrease of 182 million euros and amounted to 15.631 billion euros. Mortgage loans under management showed an increase of 117 million euros and amounted to 21.646 billion euros.
