The Maison des Associations finally has a storefront
After ten years of research, two floors of the former College des Jardins have been made available to the voluntary organization for the next five years.
It’s the end of a decade of wanderings for the Maison des Associations (MDA), in Morges. After three dead-in-the-bud installation attempts, first on the side of the vineyard house, then from the Bergerie and finally from Bluard college, it is finally in the former College des Jardins, in the heart of the city, that the organization which currently brings together some forty local companies will settle down. A loan agreement for use for five years, starting this Thursday, was signed with the Municipality this Monday afternoon.
“For some of our members, just having a fixed mailing address or an office will make a big difference.”
“It is a great recognition that has been granted to us, rejoiced the president of the MDA and popist municipal councilor Jean-Bernard Thüler. We can finally move forward, and there is work to do!” Before the member associations take over the premises, at the start of 2023, the committee will have to define the allocation of the volumes and reconcile the needs of each. “For some of our members, the simple fact of having a fixed postal address or an office will make a big difference”, illustrates the president. It should be noted that several Morges associations already use the building, like the local section of Pro Vélo.
Tenfold surface
The Maison des Associations will occupy the two upper floors of the building free of charge, including four former classrooms and an office, for a total area of approximately 350 square meters. That’s ten times more than the room without windows or running water that she occupied until now. As if to apologize for the number of years needed to find an adequate solution, the City will offer the usual charges (water, electricity, etc.) for the coming year. However, it was satisfied municipal officials who presented themselves to the press on Monday: “We are very happy to see this file come to a positive conclusion”, summed up the municipal official Vincent Jaques.
Syndic Mélanie Wyss spoke of a “pioneering project” and “a long-standing dream that is beginning to materialize”. Thanks to this new dedicated place, the Executive and the MDA intend to “develop synergies” and strengthen ties with the general public. The premises must be occupied in priority by local non-profit companies. But “a small part of rental” for third parties is not excluded, specifies the president Jean-Bernard Thüler, in order to cover the operating costs. A first assessment will also be drawn in a year.
In the medium term, the ground floor of the former college should also be allocated to the Maison des Associations, said the municipal Laetitia Bettex. The school canteen currently located there would then move to the Bluard college, whose extracurricular offer would be extended.
