Riyadh: An agreement has been reached to produce diabetes medicine locally in Saudi Arabia. The contract was signed by the Saudi Ministry of Industry. Production from Saudi will start by the middle of next year.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Al Khuraif. The contract is with MSD. Infrastructure will be created for local production of drugs for type 2 diabetes.
For this, the company will start a manufacturing center in Saudi soon. From next year, the country will produce all the medicine it needs locally. The agreement is to complete the construction of the manufacturing facility in the first quarter of 2024 and start the production of the drug. In the second phase, production aimed at export outside the country is also targeted. With this, the country’s pharmaceutical market will increase from 34 billion to 40 billion. It will become the first diabetes treatment initiative in West Asia.
