López Obrador regretted the accident in which a Venezuelan migrant died

The Mexican president recalled that action is being taken against human trafficking in that country.

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, lamented this Wednesday the incident that occurred in the state of Puebla a week ago where eight migrants died, including three from Ecuador, two from Cuba and one more from Venezuela, and which also left nine wounded.

“Last week, in a very unfortunate migrant accident in Puebla, through Tehuacán, 8 foreign migrants lost their lives. So, we are working on that and we have made progress and we are going to continue serving them so that their human rights are protected,” said the Mexican president.

On Tuesday, the authorities in that country confirmed the death of the migrants who had an accident while traveling on the Azumbilla-Cañada Morelos highway section, in the south of the state of Puebla.

The accident occurred when a truck carrying migrants overturned en route to the US border. However, the fact gained notoriety this Tuesday after a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of Ecuador, which reported an investigation by the Mexican parties.

So far, nine migrants are still known to be in serious health condition after surviving the accident.

López Obrador assured in his conference on Wednesday that Mexico has an ongoing plan to protect migrants, for which he has met with the governors of the Mexican southeast and the northern border.

“We are acting against traffickers of people and carriers that provide services in inhumane conditions of risk, there are many accidents,” he recalled.
