Los Nevados National Park Fire Outbreak: Latest Updates and Response Efforts

Caldas Risk Management Authorities reported a fire outbreak in the Los Nevados National Natural Park. According to the information known so far, it would be on land that is under the jurisdiction of the municipality of Casabianca (Tolima).

Although the flames have been concentrated in this area of ​​Tolima, firefighters from Caldas are immediately moving, as they are closer to the place.

“19 firefighter units: five from Manizales, seven from Villamaría (Caldas) and seven more from Murillo (Tolima) went to the sector known as ‘El Sifón’ to attend to the vegetation cover fire reported in the PNN Los Nevados” , reported the Caldas Risk Management Headquarters.

Likewise, this agency indicated that the officials of this National Park are searching for the starting point of the attempt, “but the weather conditions, due to the low fog, have made the task difficult.”

This is the second fire in the Los Nevados PNN in the last three months, the first occurred last December and was extinguished after around 36 hours of work.

Although the magnitude and extent of the fire is known at the moment, efforts will be made to extinguish it as soon as possible, since it has not rained in the area for several days.

This is the second fire in the Los Nevados PNN in the last three months, the first occurred last December and was extinguished after around 36 hours of work. On that occasion, the flames affected around 200 hectares, consuming vegetation that included frailejones and plants of vital importance for the care of the water sources in the area.
