Lost Lounge Access? Alternatives to Miles & More for Airport Lounges

by

A shift in banking partnerships for the Miles & More frequent flyer program is prompting travelers to reassess their airport lounge access options. As of October 2025, Deutsche Bank has taken over credit card issuance from DKB, requiring existing cardholders to reapply for their cards to maintain benefits, including lounge access. Failure to do so will result in the loss of those privileges.

The change has spurred interest in alternative methods for accessing airport lounges, particularly for those who do not maintain elite status within airline loyalty programs. Several credit cards and independent membership programs offer lounge access regardless of frequent flyer status.

American Express offers two Platinum cards – one for individual consumers and another tailored for business travelers – that provide access to over 1,550 airport lounges worldwide, including American Express Centurion Lounges and partner lounges through Priority Pass. The American Express Platinum Card currently offers new applicants up to 85,000 Membership Rewards points as a welcome bonus, redeemable for flights, hotels, or shopping, contingent upon meeting specific spending thresholds within the first six months of card ownership. A $6,000 spend earns 40,000 points, although a $10,000 spend yields an additional 45,000 points.

The American Express Business Platinum Card targets corporate travelers and businesses, offering similar lounge access benefits alongside features designed to separate business and personal expenses. New applicants can currently receive 200,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $15,000 within the first six months. Additional benefits include travel insurance, co-working and phone service credits (up to $600), mobility credits (up to $440), an extended payment period of up to 58 days, and the ability to issue up to 99 complimentary cards for employees.

Beyond credit card benefits, Priority Pass provides a standalone lounge membership program, granting access to over 1,800 airport lounges globally. Membership options vary, offering either a limited number of annual visits or unlimited access, with pricing dependent on the chosen plan. Priority Pass can be purchased directly from the provider and is independent of any specific credit card or airline affiliation.

The Priority Pass program provides amenities such as comfortable seating, complimentary refreshments, Wi-Fi access, and charging stations, with some lounges offering additional services like showers and quiet areas. American Express Membership Rewards members can redeem points for an annual Priority Pass membership and then apply online using a special code provided by American Express.

The transition from DKB to Deutsche Bank within the Miles & More program necessitates action from cardholders seeking to maintain their lounge access. Alternatives like the American Express Platinum and Business Platinum cards, as well as direct Priority Pass membership, offer options for continued lounge access independent of airline status or specific credit card affiliations.
